We were approached by door to door salesmen from this company (Ontario Energy Savings LP), If they come to your door (or any other company with a similar name or claim) do not let them in. SLAM THE DOOR IN THEIR FACE! This type of company is in place to RIP YOU OFF. No one is coming to your door to save you money. WE signed a contract with these people 3 years ago. This company capitalizes on the energy scare. They tell you that if you go with them your energy bills may be a little more to begin with but you will save in the long run. Don't you believe it. Our hydro bill with them is 1000.00 every 2 months (we heat with gas!) We are being bled dry and there is nothing we can do except pay another 1000.00 to get out of the 5 year contract. Of course we are always kept so broke that this will never happen. We have now heard about people losing their homes and all kinds of bad stuff because of these types of companies. Please remember "No one is coming to your door to save you money". The goverment will not protect you. Slam the door in their face.

Wow. Am I glad to see this company mentioned here. (But sorry for your troubles) They nearly got me years ago when I first moved to a home heated with gas. The first salesman was very pleasant and we were in a hurry to leave. He told me that we had a rebate coming and wanted to make sure that I had been credited for it. He asked to look at my bill and trustingly (and stupidly) I let him see it. This is when he got my account #. He asked me to sign that he had been there to check my number. Once again I trusted stupidly. THEN we had a phone call from our gas company asking if we had authorized the transfer of our account. We explained what had happened. Our account remained with the original company. Since then I have seen warning about these salespeople on shows such as "Money Matters". In this area, the sales people are quite aggressive and do not take no for an answer, and will not leave even when you threaten to charge them with trespassing. They can be quite intimidating and demand to see your gas bill "to get the numbers", as though it is there sole reason for being there. I agree with your advice to slam the door in their face and better yet, don't answer the door when you see them arrive in groups carrying clipboards with identification cards on lanyards around their necks. If you are lucky they may not come back a second time. They've been at MY door monthly for 12 years and counting.
